Carlisle, PA — October 7, 2025 — Downtown Carlisle came alive with energy and purpose as more than 100 community members gathered for YWCA Carlisle & Cumberland County’s Walk the Mile event, raising over $13,000 to support survivors of sexual assault and human trafficking.
The annual walk brought together advocates, families, and local leaders to stand in solidarity with survivors and promote awareness around the issues of violence and prevention. Participants filled the streets in a powerful display of unity, walking to show that ending violence requires an entire community’s effort.
The event featured music by DJ Joe George, energizing the crowd and setting a tone of purpose and intention throughout the evening. Speakers included YWCA Board President Emily Kelahan, who emphasized the importance of education, prevention, and collective action in creating a safer community for all.
“Today, we are taking a moment to stand together as a community as we focus, not only on supporting survivors, but starting a conversation about how we prevent violence from happening.” said Kelahan.
Participants also enjoyed raffle prizes donated by local businesses, adding a celebratory note to a deeply meaningful cause. The funds raised will directly support YWCA’s mission to provide resources, advocacy, and trauma-informed services to survivors across Cumberland County.
The success of this year’s event marks significant growth from previous years and highlights the ongoing community support for YWCA’s work.
