About This Race:
We are joining up once again with our sister YWCA’s in South Central Pennsylvania for the annual Race Against Racism. The 2017 Race Against Racism will be held rain or shine Saturday, April 29th, at 9am.
Registration begins at 8am. The race begins and ends at YWCA Carlisle’s headquarters at 301 G Street in Carlisle. Proceeds from the race benefit YWCA Carlisle’s racial justice programs and initiatives, which include day-long King’s Kamp, community dialogues about race, and the annual Youth Leadership Conference.
Age categories for the 5K walk/run are:
Cash prizes are awarded to the top female and top male finishers as well as the first place female and male finishers in each age category. Door prizes are held after the race. Participants must be present to win.
What is the route?
The 5 kilometer/3.1 mile road race takes participants on a loop from YWCA Carlisle down Franklin Street to West Penn Street to Bellaire Drive and around the Carlisle Area High School campus. Strollers are permitted. However, for the safety of participants, no bikes, scooters, in-line skates or animals are permitted on the race course.
NEW THIS YEAR! Our race course is pending certification by USATF. What are USATF-Certified Courses? A USATF-certificate course is a road race course whose distance has been certified for accuracy. Courses must be certified for any road running performance to be accepted as a record or to be nationally ranked. Furthermore, running a race on a certified course allows you to accurately compare your time to performances run on other certified courses because you can be sure the distances were the same. No one can truly establish a personal best if the course distance is not accurate.
