D’s adventures with YWCA Carlisle began with her employment as the Youth Director form 1985-1990. While Youth Director, D established and ran a camp in the two-county area for teenagers with special needs. It was the first camp of its kind in the area. As an employee she was part of the Assertiveness Training Team and Peer Mediation Team. She served on the board for several years in the early-mid 1990’s and was board president from 1996-1999 and remained as ex-officio through 2000. It was under D’s board leadership that the Rape Crisis program got its start.
Always helpful as a volunteer, D assisted with the 75th and 95th anniversary celebrations embracing and then reprising her role as Susan B. Anthony. Additional D was one of the original founders of the “Sisters of Satisfaction” events in 199 and helped produce these fundraisers through 2013 resulting in about $140,000 over the course of the years.
More recently, D has assisted with the Race Against Racism Committee, the Golf Outing Committees and is always eager to lend a hand by setting up her sound system equipment for community events.
D’s ongoing commitment to the success of YWCA Carlisle is the embodiment of the George Award and we are pleased to be able to recognize her many contributions.
