Youth Leadership Conference
Empowering Cumberland County youth through conversations about racial equality
About this program
What is the Youth Leadership Conference?
Each October during YWCA’s Week Without Violence, YWCA Carlisle holds the free Annual Youth Leadership Conference for students from Cumberland County high schools.YWCA Carlisle provides a safe and respectful space for thoughtful and intentional discussion about racial equality, personal bias, and social justice in the context of the school community. YWCA Carlisle seeks to empower a diverse group of student leaders to address racism and promote justice within their school communities. As administration and faculty guide a new generation of leaders, we encourage the espousal of one of the most important pieces of education: focusing on the development of a better community, where all people feel welcomed and empowered. Students ultimately achieve greater academic success when they feel accepted and included by peers as well as staff.
Who it is for?
High schools in Cumberland County are invited to select ten or more students in 9th to 12th grade to participate in our Annual Youth Leadership Conference.
