GO! Grandview Court
Growing opportunities at Grandview Court
About this program
YWCA Carlisle is delighted to continue its partnership with the Cumberland County Housing and Redevelopment Authority to manage programming at Grandview Court’s Community Center. We are excited to roll out a new youth program, SOAR (Student Opportunities and Resources), for children in Kindergarten through 5th grade.
SOAR operates Tuesday through Thursday, with different program options available. Families may choose which options to attend on the Youth Participant Form. Snacks are included with the programming. Registration is required. Please contact Ashley Burkett, Community Impact Manager at YWCA Carlisle, at 717-243-3818 for more information.
The descriptions are as follows:
Tuesdays: Homework Help/Reading Intensive (4:00 pm to 5:00 pm)
Reminiscent of our After School Homework Club program, SOAR provides a day for homework help and reading assistance. Visits from therapy dogs will allow children to practice their reading skills in a relaxed environment.
Wednesdays: Revolving Programming - STEM, Social Emotional Learning, etc. (4:00 pm to 5:00 pm)
SOAR’s Wednesday programming will rotate through STEM-based activities, gardening-related learning, social-emotional lessons, and opportunities for interactive sessions from other local community partners.
Thursdays: Carlisle Arts Learning Center’s Art Club (4:00 pm to 5:00 pm)
Carlisle Arts Learning Center (CALC) will offer their after school art club in 6-week sessions at a time. In between the 6-week sessions, children participating in the SOAR program will complete arts and crafts with YWCA staff and volunteers.
Once a month, the Penn Cumberland Garden Club will host fun, interactive, and plant-based activities at the Grandview Court Community Center for elementary school children during SOAR’s normal programming hours.
YWCA Carlisle is thrilled to partner with the LEAF Project. The LEAF Project’s mission is to “cultivate youth leaders from diverse backgrounds through meaningful work in the food system.” LEAF Project will be assisting families in building and maintaining garden boxes per request at Grandview Court.
Please stay tuned for a variety of information sessions scheduled throughout the spring to provide adult-oriented programming at the Community Center. The next information session is scheduled for Tuesday, April 7th at 6:00 pm to discuss what type of financial programming is needed in the community.
