An award-winning empowerment program for middle and high school girls
About this program
YWCA Carlisle facilitates Girl Power!, an award-winning empowerment program, within the Carlisle Area School District.
Girl Power!at Lamberton Middle School and Wilson Middle School is offered to girls in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. Girl Power! at the middle school level is designed to assist girls in addressing issues relevant to their personal and academic success, such as understanding themselves and others, developing future-oriented goals, and recognizing the influence of gender stereotypes within our society.
Girl Power! at Carlisle High School is offered to girls in 9th through 12th grades. Girl Power! at the high school level is designed to assist girls in developing personal awareness, professional readiness, and global competence through discussion on healthy relationships with peers and adults, future-oriented goals, media literacy and online safety, diversity and inclusion, equality, and global issues. At the conclusion of the program, each girl will have the opportunity to share about a topic’s impact and how she will engage with the topic in a personal, professional, or community context.
Girl Power!is informed by suggestions and feedback from the participants. Groups are facilitated by YWCA Carlisle’s Community Impact Manager and Community Impact Coordinator.
Girls in 6th – 8th grade are invited to participate at CASD’s Lamberton Middle School and Wilson Middle School during their resource period. Girl Power! runs on Days 2, 3, and 4 at Wilson Middle School and on Days 5, 6, and 1 at Lamberton Middle School.
Lamberton Middle School and Wilson Middle School Guidance Staff coordinate registration with YWCA Carlisle through their offices.
Girls in 9th - 12th grade are invited to participate at CASD’s Carlisle High School during their club period. Interested students may sign up for Girl Power! through the school when the school schedules club sign ups. Mrs. Anderson is the CHS liaison that sponsors Girl Power! at the high school level.
YWCA Carlisle recruits prospective middle school students during the third and fourth weeks of August, and Girl Power! sessions run from September to May. Girl Power! is facilitated at Lamberton Middle School and Wilson Middle School during the resource period from 1:57 to 2:33 p.m.
YWCA Carlisle receives information about the high school students interested in attending Girl Power! in September. Girl Power! is facilitated at CHS twice a month from October to April during the club period from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.
