Annual full-day camp for Cumberland County elementary students on MLK Jr.'s Holiday
About this program
What is Kings Kamp?
YWCA Carlisle is hosting our annual King’s Kamp on Monday, January 21, 2019 in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s testimony to racial and social change. King’s Kamp is at no-cost to you and your family, and runs from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Breakfast and lunch are provided. Our program will involve students in interactive activities and discussions focused on the power of words and the importance of language in building up or breaking down those around them. Following a brief time for breakfast, students will rotate through several engaging sessions facilitated by YWCA Carlisle and local community partners. After lunch, the students will have the option to participate in a basketball skills training session, and the day will end with another round of informative and fun community-based sessions.Workshops will be led by community partners such as Cumberland County Historical Society, Cumberland Valley Rising, Unleashed Potential, Hope Station, and the Carlisle Police Department. Music will be provided during lunch by musicians from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
